Linens

Don't feel as though table linens have to match the bridesmaid dresses. Ensure that your linens compliment the dresses, as well as the reception room. You are not limited to solid-color linens either as there is a wide array of beautifully textured linens at your disposal. Don't be afraid to mix textures.

Making It Personal

Personalization has been a trend for a few years but now couples are going as far as creating a logo to brand their weddings. Try graphic, modern black-and-white treatments, special lighting that beams the monogram onto the dance floor, or selecting an icon (such as a starfish or herb) to ornament everything from save-the-dates and wedding web pages to invites and favors.

Décor

When it comes to wedding decor, don't over match. The current rage in arrangements is to have several different displays that work well together, or to forgo traditional centerpieces for candlescapes of varying heights. The same applies to tables, with couples mixing round, square, and long tables for a dynamic vibe.

Timing

No one wants the fun to end too quickly, so receptions are lasting an hour longer. But not only that: The bride and groom are often the last to leave! (See our "Reception Timelines that Work" for a wedding schedule that can work for you.)

Colors

Bold, bright color is back in a big way, so take advantage of its ability to make a statement. Pinks, reds, greens, and blues continue their reign, but royal purple and deep lilac tones are also making a comeback. To really focus on color, try designing arrangements in one dramatic hue and varying the type and texture of the flowers.

Reception Location

Finding the right spot to host your fun, formal affair is your greatest challenge. Locate a distinctive venue -- scout out old nightclubs, movie theaters, museums, retired navy ships, art galleries, or historic mansions. Or transform the space you choose into something different by setting up screens to create different environments for dinner and dancing. You can even change the mood from one area to the next with the lighting: one room might feature white and ivory paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling while the next may be outfitted with deep red beaded lampshades on every table.
